OCALA, FLA. — Herbert Royce Tackett, 74, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Denton, died Sept. 24, 2011.
Born Sept. 27, 1936, in Globe, he attended the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville, where he played on the varsity basketball team.
Herbert was a member and officer of the Silent Neighbors of Lake County in Mount Dora, Fla., and the Big Sun Association of the Deaf in Ocala.
Herbert was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Faye Tackett; parents, Pete and Pansy Tackett of Denton; a daughter, Effie Pansy Tackett; and two siblings, Raymond and Ricky Tackett.
Herbert is survived by sons, Timmy Tackett of Richmond and Thomas Tackett of Wheelersburg, Ohio; daughters, Aloha Tackett of Richmond and Janet (Richard) Tackett Noel; four brothers, Clarence (Emma) Tackett of High Point, N.C., Shirlie (Mary) Tackett of Mebane, N.C., Allen (Virginia) Tackett of Talbot, Tenn., and Jack Tackett of Denton; sisters, Janet (Diane) Tackett of Fort Myers, Fla., Dottie (Charles) Tackett Ferry of Grayson and Effie Tackett Owens of Dayton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by stepdaughters, Geneva (Daniel) Jernigan and Vicky Smith of Ocala; and a step-son, Johnny Berry of Orlando, Fla.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Grayson Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olive Hill.
