OCALA, FLA. — Herbert Royce Tackett, 74, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Denton, died Sept. 24, 2011.

Born Sept. 27, 1936, in Globe, he attended the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville, where he played on the varsity basketball team.

Herbert was a member and officer of the Silent Neighbors of Lake County in Mount Dora, Fla., and the Big Sun Association of the Deaf in Ocala.

Herbert was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Faye Tackett; parents, Pete and Pansy Tackett of Denton; a daughter, Effie Pansy Tackett; and two siblings, Raymond and Ricky Tackett.

Herbert is survived by sons, Timmy Tackett of Richmond and Thomas Tackett of Wheelersburg, Ohio; daughters, Aloha Tackett of Richmond and Janet (Richard) Tackett Noel; four brothers, Clarence (Emma) Tackett of High Point, N.C., Shirlie (Mary) Tackett of Mebane, N.C., Allen (Virginia) Tackett of Talbot, Tenn., and Jack Tackett of Denton; sisters, Janet (Diane) Tackett of Fort Myers, Fla., Dottie (Charles) Tackett Ferry of Grayson and Effie Tackett Owens of Dayton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by stepdaughters, Geneva (Daniel) Jernigan and Vicky Smith of Ocala; and a step-son, Johnny Berry of Orlando, Fla.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Grayson Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Mary Sue (Grever) Zulauf

LOUISVILLE – Mary Sue (Grever) Zulauf, 80, of Lexington, KY passed away Thu, July 28, 2011 at home with her loving husband of 51 years Donald Cole Zulauf by her side. Mary Sue was born Sep 29, 1930 in Louisville, KY, the second daughter of the late John J. Grever and the late Alma M. Fields Grever. She was born and raised in Louisville, Cincinnati, and Madisonville. She attended Emerson Deaf Oral School in Louisville, St. Rita School for the Deaf in Danville, KY. Mary was the first deaf student from Kentucky School for the Deaf that was hired by IBM to work on Key Punching database in 1950. She stayed with IBM until she left to marry Donald C. Zulauf on May 30, 1960 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Mathews here in Louisville. They lived in Newton, NJ for about 11 years where their three sons John Barry, Charles Andrew and Jonathon Cole were born. They relocated their residence in East Hartford and Enfield, CT in 1967 and Lexington, KY in 1977. After her retirement with the Social Security Administration office in Frankfort, KY and Island Creek Coal Company in Lexington, KY she remained in very active in volunteering with Kentucky School for the Deaf Alumni Association (30plus years), Kentucky Association of the Deaf, the National Association of the Deaf, Louisville Association of the Deaf, Louisville Senior Citizen Association, and the International Catholic Deaf Association. She was a long time chair person of Kentucky School for the Deaf Alumni Association Hall of Fame. She leaves behind a legacy of Humor, Strength, Grace and Love. In addition to her husband, Donald Zulauf, she is survived by her sister, Ann McMahon of West Hartford, CT, three sons, John Barry Zulauf and his wife, Suzanne Batts Zulauf of Lexington, KY, Charles Andrew Zulauf and his wife, Christy Zulauf of Scott Depot, WV, and Jonathan Cole Zulauf of Scott Depot, WV, three grandchildren, M.E. Zulauf, Charles Cole Zulauf and Wyatt Jackson Zulauf all from Scott Depot, WV, as well as many great nieces and nephews, cousins from Louisville, KY, Cincinnati, OH, and New Jersey. Visitation will be Sun from 5-8pm at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, Louisville, KY 40207. Mass will be held noon Mon at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 508 Breckenridge Lane with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Donor’s Favorite in her memory.
